Headteacher Message

Hello all,

This week it felt like Autumn was well and truly settling in. If you were anything like me, you might have looked out your window to be greeted by rain and felt slightly fed up. However, I can reassure you that as soon as you enter the school building, no matter what is happening outside, there are always fantastic things happening here to brighten the mood and inspire you. For instance, this term our assemblies have focused on our value responsibility:

It has been so great to see so many children taking responsibility in a variety of different ways. Some children have been showing this by helping keep our school tidy, some have been showing this in their fantastic independent learning and some children have been showing it in our playground by looking after each other and the equipment we have been using. We are really proud of the way the children have taken our values to heart. It is great to see the way they are showing them around school. Challenge them to be responsible at home too!

This week, it was fantastic to see so many of you joining us for your Meet the Teacher meetings. It was great to be able to offer these meetings remotely and in person. Thank you for your attendance. If you have any queries following these meetings or would like to speak to your child’s teacher then please do not hesitate to contact us. Our door is always open.

In the next couple of weeks we have two important sessions for parents. On Tuesday 5th October at 9:30 we have an e-safety session led by Peter Cowley. Please follow this link to sign up: https://forms.gle/F5pV6e7Veb9eu3xf6 On Monday 11th October at 9:00, myself and Mrs Claridge will be running a safeguarding session. Please follow this link to sign up https://forms.gle/r8d6xUrmA27qMXy46 We look forward to seeing you there!

I am now heading up to Year 6 to lead a very exciting session about developing debating skills. We are lucky enough to be involved with a programme called Debate Mate in which we will be running a debating club for Year 5 & 6 as well as participating in local and national debating competitions. Next week, myself and Mr Porter will hear all the children in Year 5 & 6 present an initial argument before selecting a group to join the Debate Mate Club. We are incredibly excited to be involved in this programme and really feel that it links closely with many of the overarching aims of our curriculum vision. The curriculum page on our website is undergoing a significant update, so please do pay it a visit to see the ambitious curriculum vision we have for the school https://www.darell.richmond.sch.uk/school-life

It looks like you’ll need to keep umbrellas close to hand this weekend but I hope that amongst the showers, you manage to enjoy spending some quality time with your lovely children. Have a fantastic weekend.
