Headteacher Message

Hello all

D.I.S.C.O. Those of you who are of a certain age will remember the 1979 song by Ottowan.  An absolute classic.  I realise that I am probably talking to grandparents rather than parents as I was only 8 when this came out.  Top of the Pops.  Anyway, the reason it came to mind is because we are holding two discos as our flagship end to the term and the details are below.  It should be a lot of fun.

Tomorrow we are holding a school open day for prospective nursery and reception parents.  We are predicting our highest ever turnout with over 21 families in attendance.  This speaks to the growing popularity of this school and community.  Everybody has played their part, and it is a great reflection on the community that we have that the school is generating so much local interest.

Disco Information:

As you are aware, we have the Christmas Disco that will take place over two sessions on Friday, 15th December. We understand that there may be siblings waiting to attend the next session, so we would like to invite them to Year 1 and Year 2 to watch a short movie and engage in some colouring activities.

Parents are welcome to stay and enjoy tea, coffee, and mince pies available in the waiting area outside the Reception class. You will have a clear view of the hall from this position to watch all the fun and dancing.

Children attending the disco from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will remain in their class until the time of the disco, 3:30pm, and be taken to the hall by a member of staff. (There is no need for you to collect your child until 4:30pm unless you are planning on staying for the disco.)

Additionally, we will be needing parent volunteers to help with monitoring different aspects of the disco. Please follow the link and fill out the Google form if you would be available to help with any of the suggested areas:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfg8AUmuy9VDOFVJmJIhey3ZaI3Ie85SX1A-Ddzsu7xkkdS6A/viewform?usp=sf_link

At the Disco there will also be a Tombola where bottles and chocolates can be won with lucky tickets. So, on Friday, 1st December, we shall be holding a non-uniform Day, and instead of a monetary donation we shall be requesting bottles and chocolates for the tombola. We will send a reminder closer to the time.

Thank you all and have a lovely weekend with your families.

Office Updates

School Travel Plan Survey Scooter Silhouette Vector Art, Icons, and Graphics for Free Download

Schools are being encouraged by the Government to address increasing congestion on the “school run”.
As part of an update to our travel plan, we aim to look at practical ways to cut the number of cars used on the school run and to encourage (where safe to do so) active travel in the interests of our children’s health and fitness.

The school is now doing a travel survey amongst pupils and staff, and we would like to hear your views and suggestions as parents, too. Once the school has produced a Travel Plan and had it approved, we will have the opportunity to access funding grants to be spent on the school site for the benefit of the children.

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions – we do need your views!

Darell Christmas Lunch

The annual Darell Christmas lunch is on Wednesday, 20th December. We are asking all parents to confirm if their child will be having a school lunch or packed lunch for this day. The numbers collected will be used to determine the amount of produce we need to order to cater for the children.

For the children who receive the special diet from Caterlink due to allergy restrictions, you can select the special diet option for your child if they wish to have a Christmas lunch.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - What story does auntie Sheema tell Ravi? (the story of Rama and Sita) What does the demon king Ravana look like? (10 heads and 20 arms) Who helps Rama rescue Sita? (Hanuman, the monkey king) How do Rama and Sita find their way home? (everyone puts candles out to light the way)

Peake - What did Squirrel think had happened to the leaves? Can you think of three adjectives to describe how Squirrel felt?  What had really happened to the leaves?

Weir - Where else will Claude go? What will he and Mr Bobblysock do?

Thunberg - What have you learnt about the moon? What is your favourite fact?

Darwin - If you could invent a different end to ‘The Children of Lir’ what would it be?

Attenborough - Who is the speaker of the poem 'Heartwood' by Robert Mcfarlane? Who is being addressed? How do you know?

Parks - 'Letters from the Lighthouse' - Why do you think Olive is not being honest with her mother in the letter?
