Headteacher Message

Hello all,

As I write this the school is extremely quiet.  We are partly open due to the strikes and Reception, Nursery and the SRP are spending the day at Kew Gardens.  This week Year 6 also travelled to Hounslow, to spend time at a Gurdwara as part of their RE curriculum. These trips outside of school are really important and give children life experiences that stay with them and enrich their learning and understanding.

 I thought it was interesting that Keir Starmer, the Labour Party leader, made a speech that extolled the virtues of promoting oracy in education.  I think he might be slightly behind the curve in terms of Darell School as we have been focussing on oracy and the ability to speak coherently, confidently and persuasively for the past three years.  Just this week I was on a tour with a potential employee, and she remarked on the confidence of all the children we came across.  I know it is not measured in terms of government statutory tests but the ability to express yourself is a life skill and should not be underestimated.  

This week we had a local authority led review of our Specialist Resource Provision (Walker and Newton Classes).  It was a successful review that highlighted the many strengths this provision has and identified areas for development.  They were very impressed with the increase in the amount of integration into mainstream classes and how this was tailored to individual need. I love the way our children integrate with each other and I would like to extend a special thanks to the staff team that not only make this possible but make it enriching for all. What was also apparent was that once again the parental voice was extremely supportive of the provision for their children.  Thank you to those parents/carers who took time out of their busy schedules.  

I have just looked at the dairy for next week, and we are extremely busy here.  As ever, the nearer we get to the end of term the more frantic things become.  We have dress rehearsals, governing body meetings, Eco refill sales and our end of year picnic.  I really look forward to us all coming together to celebrate an excellent year.
