Headteacher Message

Hello all,

Just two minutes ago Newton and Walker class walked past the office with butterflies.  Yes, butterflies. They have watched them emerge from their cocoons and are off to the park to set them free. This is pretty much how we are feeling at Darell.  We have completed our inspection and now have freedom to drive the school forward at a pace.  I am not allowed to share the grades we have been given, but I can say that it was a positive experience and the strength of the team shone through. The inspection report now needs to be quality assured before publishing, and we are really pushing to have it published this side of the summer break. We are the same school we were at this time last week, and I am so thankful to everyone in this community for their support.  Parental feedback was amazing and the messages and support we felt from you was overwhelming. To cap it off we received a wonderful breakfast from one of our parents that really set us up for the day.

This means so much to everyone here and really spurred us on to showcase our lovely school.  Staff were amazing.  I had to sit down and be quiet in a number of the meetings, which was hard but did allow me to appreciate the quality of individuals we have at this school.  The children were superb throughout, their manners and character shone through in every interaction the inspectors had with them.

It is interesting because rather than feeling knackered and a bit flat the inspection has energised us.  Just this morning Mrs Claridge met with the parental body who were fizzing with ideas about how to support and improve the school. The staff are also creating a form of wish list for school improvement that we will digest and put into place for next year.  The future is very bright indeed.  Have a lovely weekend with your families.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - In Jack and the Beanstalk, can you say why it was a good idea for Jack to take the harp, the goose and the sack of gold and why it was not a good idea for him to take them?

Peake - What made Odd Dog Out special or unique? How important is it to be who you are rather than like your friends?

Weir - What do you predict William will do now that he has found the Night Gardener?

Thunberg - Where has Stig come from?

Darwin - In Toto the Ninja Cat, Archie and Sandy were nice poachers and Colin was a nasty gamekeeper. Can you think of a situation where the poachers are nasty, and the gamekeeper is nice?

Attenborough - What did you find out about British explorer Joseph Hooker and his work at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew?

Parks - "When life gives you mangoes" What did you think of the end of this book, and would you recommend it to a friend?
