Headteacher Message

Hello all,

Time waits for no-one!  It is hard to believe that we have only six weeks left of this term and school year.  Where has it all gone? We have had a lovely warm weather week at Darell.  A personal highlight of mine was accompanying the Year 1 and 2 Community Club on our litter pick at the North Sheen Rec.  They worked their socks off, and I am so pleased that they completely cleared the playground and paddling pool area before they added the water on Thursday; they have truly ‘Made a Difference’.

We have been expecting an OFSTED inspection for a few months now.  We are proud of where we are as a school and will welcome them with open arms when they decide to visit. When they do, you will receive some calm but a tad frantic messages and emails asking you to fill in a questionnaire they provide.  Please do.  They also may catch you at the school gate on the morning of your visit and ask you some questions.  Honesty is always the best policy, so please let them know your views.

We are coming to the end of a cycle in terms of our governance and are now on a recruitment drive. As such, we need to recruit parent governors to join the board. I was going to try and explain the role here, but it really needs a discussion to do it justice.  If you are at all interested please contact us by email and I will arrange a telephone call with myself or our chair of governors to discuss the role.  What I can say is that you will be integral to the school's continued drive for self-improvement and will be ‘Making a Difference’ in a practical and helpful way.

I had better go as my eldest daughter turns 13 today.  A teenager! She has 6 friends coming around for a sleepover so wish me luck!  Have a lovely weekend in the sun.  Stay safe and happy.

Without wanting to wish this half-term away, we wanted to give you plenty of notice on an early finish on the last day of term. On Friday, 21st July, we will finish at 1:30pm. Collection arrangements will be from normal places. After school club will run to from 1:30pm and finish at 6pm, as normal.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - In Jack and the Beanstalk, which characters live in 'a poor old shack'? When can Jack climb out of the oven? And what does Jack take back down the beanstalk?

Peake - Why was the Lonely Beast standing at the cliff's edge? Can you remember what he could see? What was he thinking?

Weir - What is your most interesting polar bear fact?

Thunberg - What is the Iron Man? Where has he come from?

Darwin - If you could invent a firework, what would it look like? What would you call it?

Attenborough - What is a highwayman? Why was Hounslow Heath a hotspot for highwaymen in the 17th and 18th centuries??

Parks - Will Karl use Sir Ironsoul as his clockwork figure? And if so, what do you predict is going to happen at 'the great unveiling'?
