Headteacher Message 

Good afternoon all,

I hope you all had a lovely half-term and have had a good week.  The days are certainly getting longer.  I was able to see the sunrise while walking my dog at 6.30am this morning, and I am actually managing to cycle home some days without lights. Our school tagline is ‘Make a Difference.’ and we have been working hard to improve our local environment.  This week our litter pickers have focussed on the entrances to North Sheen Rec.  They worked tirelessly to clear the area and ensure that everyone entering the park and play areas can enjoy the space free of  litter.  Children are amazing.  They really want to help others.  All the children doing this work volunteer to do so and we have large numbers committed to making a difference.  Last term Year 5 and 6 were in the Community Club.  This term it is the turn of Year 3 and 4 and in the Summer term children from Year 1 and 2 will be taking part.  It is one of the many highlights of my week.
 

A large number of you have also recently ‘Made a Difference’ At the end of the term we held a collection for the earthquake that had devastated large areas of Turkey and Syria.  The amount of money that was collected, and we are able to donate is £883.75.  That is an incredible amount of money in such a short space of time. Thank you all for supporting a cause that is meaningful to all but particularly close to a number in our community.

An update on the strike action planned for next Thursday, 2nd March.  As yet I do not have a full picture of which classes will be open or closed and will inform you at the earliest opportunity next week. It is looking like we will be partially open but nothing is definitive yet. Thank you for your understanding with this matter, as a parent of three I am aware of the inconvenience this causes.

World Book Day

On Friday, 3rd March (rather than on World Book Day itself), we will be celebrating World Book Day by promoting reading and a love of books.

We are inviting all children and adults to bring their favourite book, story or poem to share with their peers (we are not asking children or staff to dress up this year).

Over the course of the day, additional time will be built in for teachers to read aloud to their class, for children to read independently and be given the opportunity to share and recommend their top reads to their peers. Children will have the opportunity to visit a classroom other than their own and enjoy a story time with a different teacher.

As part of our focus on giving all children access to books, all children will also receive a £1 book token that they will be able to exchange at most bookshops for one of the specially published books. Children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 will be visiting Kew Bookshop to exchange their token for a brand-new book to bring home.

Job Vacancy – Casual Cycle Training Instructor

Richmond Bikeability Team is currently seeking to recruit Cycling Instructors on casual contracts.  Bikeability Level 2 training is delivered to Year 6 pupils in every state primary school and most independents in the borough.  Instructors are expected to work full weeks (Mon – Fri) in term time, in all weathers but not necessarily every week.  Timings fit in with school days.  If not qualified, training will be provided.  Pay is £15.88 per hour.  Please see job advert - https://jobs.richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk/jobs/job/Casual-Cycle-Training-Instructor/5485 (note that location is Richmond borough not Wandsworth).
