Headteacher Message

It is 6:15am, and I am sitting in my wigwam listening to the sound of rain pitter-patter on the canvas above.  It is the last morning of the Year 6 residential and I have been lucky enough to spend the last two nights at Thames Young Mariners.  I have been on many residential trips in my career and I have never been able to retire to my wigwam at 10pm, with all the children fast asleep.  There are legendary stories of teachers patrolling corridors at 2am trying to get children to bed.  Not at Darell School.  They have been wonderful throughout.  Superb ambassadors for our school.  Why?  They have lived every one of our four values: EQUALITY, ASPIRATION, RESPONSIBILITY and especially during the talent show last night ENJOYMENT.

I would like to thank the staff who have stayed with children throughout.  It goes without saying that they too have lived our values and in doing so facilitated such a great trip.

I rushed back to school yesterday morning to complete a school tour and recently my days have been filled with such tours.  I was in a meeting with the local authority this week, and they said that they have never had to deal with so many in year admissions across the Borough.  I would like to assure any parent who has a child recently join Darell that their child will do very well here.  Our staff and children will welcome them with open arms, and they will quickly feel part of our lovely school community. We have recently had children from Turkey, Israel and Vietnam arrive and our school is a better place for this. They have added to the rich tapestry that is Darell School. I was taking a whole school assembly this week and one of these children, on their first day, felt able to stand up in front of the entire school and offer an answer to a question I had.  We are very proud of her.  I had better go now as I am due to build a raft in the rain.  Wish me luck and have a lovely weekend.

Regards,

Joe Porter

Stress balls

  •  Take the ball(s) in one or both hands and squeeze and release.
  •  Experiment with squeezing the ball. Find a way that is right for you, adjusting the speed, pressure and timing of your squeezes to whatever way you like.
