Headteacher Message

Hello everybody,

Once again, that was the week that was.  Year 6 and the team surrounding them have been superb all week. SATs are done and dusted and Summer is here. They have done really, really well and they are a credit to the school and most importantly themselves.  If you have a spare four and a half hours we could discuss the merits of standardised testing of Primary school children but we are all busy people so probably best to celebrate what they have achieved because they will do very well when results are published.

The big news is that we are going to have a celebration on the last Friday of this half term and you and your families are all invited.  It is to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and we are going to use it as an opportunity to celebrate.   As such we will be having a picnic and you are going to provide the food.  Details will be published on Monday next week.  We would like to recognise the rich tapestry of nationalities that make up the school and would like to serve dishes from Britain and around the world.  In effect an international food market.  Picnic blankets will be mandatory and a good time will be had by all.  So please put this date in your diary.  Well what date you ask?  This week I taught computing to Year 6 and asked them to use adobe to design a flyer.  Here is an example of their work with the time and dates for your diaries.

This typifies the excellence of our Year 6 cohort!  Creative, quick to learn (It was the first time they had used the software) and so hardworking.  It is not perfect and they will improve it before sending next week.

Have a lovely weekend.  Sunscreen and smiles please.

How to talk to your child about mental health

Younger children might enjoy using an activity picker to decide on an activity together. You can download the template and follow the instructions below to make one with your child.

  1. Print out the activity picker on A4 and cut it out.
  2. Flip your activity picker over so the blank side is facing up.
  3. Fold diagonally in half (starting from the bottom left corner, fold your activity picker so the bottom left corner meets the top right corner). Your activity picker should make a triangle. Crease the edge well. Unfold this, and do the same thing but starting with the bottom right corner, fold the activity picker in half diagonally. You should now have a creased point in the middle.
  4. Stay on the blank side and fold each corner so the points meet in the middle. Your activity picker will now look like a smaller square.
  5. Flip the activity picker over so you are on the printed side. You will now do the same step on this side, folding each corner into the middle. Your activity picker will now look like an even smaller square.
  6. Now fold your activity picker in half, so your square is a small rectangle. Unfold and fold in half again on the other side.
  7. Slot your thumbs and first fingers under the flap. You’re now ready to use your activity picker!

Fruity frozen yogurt bites recipe

Ingredients

  • 50g strawberries
  • 80g pack mango and pineapple fingers
  • 1 kiwi fruit, halved
  • 500g Greek yoghurt
  • 1½ tbsp fruit coulis

Method

  • Line a 12-hole muffin tin with cupcake cases. Let children use a butter knife to chop the strawberries, mango and pineapple into bite-size pieces. Scoop out the kiwi flesh with a dessert spoon and then children can chop with a butter knife. Set the fruit aside.
  • Put a dollop of yogurt in each cupcake case, so that each is about a third full.
  • Using a teaspoon, dot a little fruit coulis on top of the yogurt in each case, then swirl with a teaspoon. Arrange the chopped fruit on top. Transfer the muffin tin to the freezer for 2½ hrs, or until completely frozen. Remove the cases from the tin (see tip) and serve on plates or in their cases.
