Headteacher Message

Hello all,

Today I wanted to highlight another one of our school values that I have really seen in action this week!

From Wednesday afternoon until this morning, I have been privileged to be a part of Year 6’s residential trip to Thames Young Mariners. I say privileged and I really do mean it. The children have been absolutely phenomenal. Across the course of their time on the trip the children have; paddle boarded, kayaked, dock jumped, played archery, worked as a team and yes, even slept! What was clear was the enjoyment that the children took from participating in all the activities, working together and developing their bonds with each other. The children truly were a credit to you and the school. I also have to mention the fantastic staff on the trip too. Mr Fitzgerald, Mrs Tricker and Miss Cook were superb. They supported the children to overcome their fears, helped them to work together and as a staff team were incredibly graceful when paddle boarding! I hope that they and all the Year 6 children have a restful and relaxing weekend.

Coming back to school today, I was greeted by four Year 2 children who have written a brilliantly structured and very detailed letter to our MP Sarah Olney. They are concerned about littering on the corner of Darell Road. In their own time, they have planned, drafted and then re-written a superb persuasive letter that highlights how this problem is affecting them. I was hugely impressed with their writing, teamwork and responsibility. It is interactions like these that make this school a special place to be.

Looking ahead, next week we have safeguarding training happening on Monday 11th at 9:00 in the school hall. If you are able to attend we would love to see you as we really value having parental volunteers in school. We also have individual school photos on Monday. Please do ensure that your child attends school in their uniform. I must end here for today as, although enjoyment was my take home message from the Year 6 residential, I do need to catch up on some sleep! I hope you have a great weekend with your families.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - What makes you unique?

Peake - Why didn’t the three little pigs let the wolf come in when he knocked on the door?

Weir - What would you say to the Queen if she tried to take your favourite soft toy?

Walker - Imagine a world where everyone is kind.  How can we make that come true?

Newton - Why did the witch find a leaf in Rapunzel's hair?

Thunberg - Why did Ruby have a worry? What would you do if you had a worry?

Darwin - : ‘Rebecca came to a miserable end because she liked to slam doors.  Imagine if Hilaire Belloc wrote a poem about Gaston, who liked to eat too many sweets. What miserable end could he come to?’

Attenborough - What do you think happened to Lupe? What makes you think that?

Where should the search party go next?
