Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you have all had a good week and are enjoying the belated arrival of Summer!  We have had a productive week at school with children settling into their routines and working hard.  I am doing a number of school tours at the moment. Without fail, the parents I am showing around remark on the excellent learning behaviours of the children across the school.  They are a credit to you and the teaching staff who have established positive learning cultures in every classroom.  We would now like to invite each and every one of you into school to see your child's classroom and to meet the teacher.  The dates for these meetings are below.  It is an informal meeting but the class teacher will do a short presentation to help facilitate the home/school learning partnership.  Some of you will be wary of coming into school and sharing the space with others. This is not a problem. We will set up a remote link so that you can join the meeting from home.  A Google form will be sent out next week to gather your preferences.  If it looks like there are too many due to be in a class at any given time, we will run two sessions in order to ensure safety. Please make every effort to attend whether in person or virtually.

Reception, Year 1,2 meetings will begin at 3.30pm

Year 3,4,5,and 6 will begin at 3.45pm

  • Monday 27th September - Year 1 & Year 6
  • Tuesday 28th September - Year 2 & Year 3
  • Wednesday 29th September -  Reception & Year 5
  • Thursday 30th September - Year 4  & Newton/Walker

It seems a very long time ago that parents were invited into the school and this feels like another marker on our careful return to normality. I am going to finish on that positive note. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy every precious moments with your children.

E-Safety

It is really important to ensure that your children stay safe online. To help you understand how you can keep your child safe online, we have secured a webinar from the Local Authority's e-safety lead Peter Cowley. This event will be held virtually on Tuesday 5th October at 9:30 so please save the date in your diary. Further information will follow regarding how to join the session.

Office Updates

Head Injury

We are trialling a new system regarding sustaining a head injury. We understand that the system before using stickers wasn't always perfect. Often, throughout the day, the sticker would fall off and the letter we supply never makes it home via child mail!  Instead of a child being given a sticker for a bumped head, they will be given an "I Bumped my Head Today " wristband. The wristbands cannot be removed unless they are cut off. If your child comes home wearing a wristband, it will indicate they have bumped their head. Every bumped head regardless of severity will receive a band.  As always, we will assess the injury and contact you if your child displays any symptoms of concussion or has a visible mark or bump. We hope this will make it easier for you as parents and carers to identify any head injuries. We welcome any feedback on this.

MHST Workshop: Separation anxiety

Does your child or young person really struggle to separate from you when they go to school? Following lockdown, a lot of children and young people are finding it hard to separate from parents and caregivers. The MHST will be running a live 90 minute workshop on separation anxiety for parents/carers. The aim of this workshop is to help you identify anxious behaviours, think about what maintains these and provide you with some ideas on what you can do to help your child or young person overcome these challenges.

The MHST will be running one workshop over 6 dates (please note, it will be the same workshop offered on each date). Please book your tickets for one workshop using the Eventbrite link below.

Wellbeing

Parenting or caring for a child or young person can be tough. It's important to make sure you look after your own mental wellbeing, as this will help you support yourself and those you care about.

Try to recognise and acknowledge when you're feeling low or overwhelmed. Struggling with something or experiencing your own mental health problems does not make you a bad parent or carer.

It's completely normal to be worried, scared or helpless during difficult times, and feeling this way is nothing to be ashamed of.

Is there a friend, fellow parent or carer you trust enough to tell how you're feeling? Maybe there's family, friends or a colleague who could support you or allow you a break?

There's plenty of help out there. You should never feel like you have to cope on your own.

One of our new starters in Wonder Class built a lovely farm complete with it's own vet and car park! They then sorted the animals into the different areas. The sheep had the green carpet which was grass and the blue which was water. #creativity #EYFS https://t.co/8ZTP4TgHoU
