Headteacher Message

Hello all,

Apologies for the late newsletter. Old age and the heat have finally got to me.  I have to say your children have been magnificent during our most recent heatwave. They, like us, are struggling with the inevitable lack of sleep and high temperatures. They are just getting on with it and continuing to live our values in challenging conditions.

We have made a number of adaptations including the following:

  • Moving Key Stage 2 morning breaks to the Key Stage 1 playground as there is more cool tree cover.

  • Allowing children to stay inside during lunch break and play games.

  • Year 2 having some lessons in the main hall. Their class is on the corner of the building and catches much of the day’s sun.

  • Removal of afternoon assemblies.

  • Relaxation of school uniform. PE kit is allowed every day.

Most importantly, the staff team here - while wilting - are adapting the school day to ensure that your children are happy.  I have to say, I was very happy yesterday evening after seeing the Year 6 production. It was everything a production should be. Joyous and characterised by confident acting and superb singing. The fact that they did it in such extreme temperatures is testament to the amazing team spirit this cohort has. I am always so proud of the confident, resilient and kind children that we pass on to secondary school and I am looking forward to hearing about their further adventures. There is one more day until the weekend so please ensure your child comes to school tomorrow. You can see from the above that our first thought is their wellbeing and we will ensure that we look after them.

Thank you,

Joe Porter

PSA - THANK YOU

Dear Darell Community,

A big thank you to those who were able to make our Darell summer picnic yesterday. We had lots of fun painting, squirting water, making badges, eating Darell Mess and candy floss, and enjoying the summer sunshine together! We raised £356 for our lovely school. This event concludes the PSA activities for this year. Thank you to everyone who supported the school through baking, donating, running stalls, organising events and bringing their ideas to the coffee mornings and meetings. The PSA is a small, informal group of parents and carers who want to make Darell even better for our children and their school community. If you'd like to get involved next year, please chat with Kelly in reception or come along to our next coffee morning on Friday 11th September.

Please take a look at our latest Instagram reel by a member of our PSA:

Have a great summer!

Warm wishes,
