Headteacher Message

Hello all,

This is a joyous newsletter to write. Last week we set up an Amazon wishlist and asked for contributions to the school fund. The response has been overwhelming and incredibly heartwarming. We often talk to the staff and children at Darell School about ‘Making a Difference’ but this time it is you who have gone over and above to support the school.  We have had post it notes, a trampoline, wheelbarrows, pens, large bean bags and a sandpit to name just a few. The absolutely lovely thing is that these resources are now in use.

I mean. This lovely wooden sandpit was not here last week. It is here now and the children are loving it. Heartwarming. Truly and practically ‘Making a difference’ Thank you very, very much.

I do not think there is very much left to say and I am suffering from the Year 4 residential ‘I need to go the toilet at half one in the morning’ it is, so I will finish there. Well, not quite. I have to say  Year 4 were and are having an absolutely lovely time. The weather has been perfect and I was really pleased to hear about how ambitious they were being in and on the water.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception - From our learning about tadpoles and frogs, what can you remember about the lifecycle of a frog? (egg or frogspawn/tadpole/froglet/frog/egg or frogspawn)

Why do frogs lay so many eggs? (because there are a lot of predators and not all of the eggs/tadpoles/frogs will survive)

Which animals like to eat frogspawn, tadpoles and frogs? (spiders, fish, birds)

What do frogs like to eat? (insects, snails, worms, slugs)

Year 1 – We have read Animal Atlas. Which animal would you most like to see in real life? Why? Which continent would you visit to see this animal in the wild?

Year 2 –  What was your favourite part of The Antlered Ship and why?

Year 3 - What do you think we can learn from the Midnight Panther? Why do you think this is important?

Year 4 -  If you were Emma in the ‘Hard Times Jar’ book, would you have taken the books home from school?

Year 5 -  ‘Journey to Jo’burg’ -  Why did everyone run when they saw the police? What was a pass book?

Year 6 - Which animal poem was your favourite this week? Can you add a verse to any of the poems we have read or write another animal poem?

SRP 2 - What would you do if you found a lonely beast living in our local park?
