Headteacher Message

Hello all,

Look what landed on my desk this morning!

We are the first school to be featured in the glossy Kew Life magazine. This is great exposure for the school, and I am really pleased that we were first in line for this publicity. It also made me realise that I do not get enough time to see the excellent work that is going on in our school. The first picture shows some of the wonderful art that Year 6 have been working on. Who also knew that Ms Prentice used to compete at national level for horse riding; hidden talents! I am going to use the Easter break to reflect on all the good that is happening at our school, recharge my batteries and attack the summer term with energy and a fresh pair of eyes. Everyone has worked hard this term, and we hope you all enjoy the well-deserved break.  We are always looking to improve here at Darell and I look forward to updating you next term.

Have a wonderful Easter and see you in the summer!

School Uniform

We’ve been so impressed by how smartly the children have been arriving at school recently. It really helps foster that wonderful sense of "belonging" that makes Darell Primary and Nursery School so special.

As we move into the summer term, we just wanted to share a gentle refresher on our uniform expectations to ensure everyone stays comfy and ready for learning.

Daily Uniform Quick-Check:

  • Tops: Navy blue V-neck sweatshirt (with logo) or a plain navy cardigan. Underneath, a white polo shirt (logo optional).
  • Bottoms: Grey school trousers, shorts, skirts, or tunics.
  • Footwear: Plain black, sensible shoes or boots. (If it’s a rainy day and wellies are needed for the walk, please remember to send school shoes in a bag for the children to change into once they arrive!)
  • Warmth: In the cooler months, the navy school fleece is a great option for outdoor use and break times.

A Few Friendly Reminders:

  • PE Days: Children should attend school wearing their PE kit on their specific timetabled day. This includes their blue logo T-shirt and plain black shorts, leggings, or tracksuit bottoms.
  • Hair & Accessories: If your child has long hair, please ensure it is tied back. Small, plain stud earrings and watches are perfect, but please leave other jewellery at home.
  • Labels, labels, labels! We know how quickly things can go missing, so please double-check that your child’s name is clearly marked on all items—especially those jumpers and fleeces!

Where to buy? While many items like trousers and plain polo shirts can be found at high street shops, any items featuring the school logo are available from The Shoe Station in Kew.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support in helping our children take pride in their school. If you have any questions or need a hand with uniform, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school office.

Best wishes,

The Darell Primary School Team

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception - In the story of the Gingerbread Man, how might the story end if the fox really was friendly? Can you draw a picture to show this?

Year 1 – What creature was Dr Morely searching for? (the giant Arctic Jellyfish) What other Arctic animals does the crew see during their voyage? (narwhals, beluga whales, orca, a polar bear) Do you think that Dr Morely and the giant Arctic Jellyfish see each other at the end of the story?
