Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well. This week I would like to celebrate and thank a member of staff who is leaving next Thursday. His name is Mannie Harding, and he is a colleague and a friend.

It is fitting that we are sitting in front of the principles of nurture display. Mannie has been an integral part of our Nurture Team for the last few years. He embodies our approach towards the children in our care. Kind, caring and committed to building positive relationships. He will be missed by pupils, staff and parents. I initially worked with Mannie many moons ago in Hammersmith and Fulham and was absolutely delighted when he made contact regarding a position here. He is moving up north with his family and I really hope that another school will be able to benefit from his presence. If you see him, be sure to say goodbye.

We had a local authority early years review this week. Myself and Mrs Claridge asked them to have a look at our Nursery and Reception provision because we believe it is excellent.  To cut a long and very positive story short, they agree with us. The feedback was excellent. Well done to all the staff and children.

Have a lovely weekend.

Joe Porter

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception - In our story, 'Can't You Sleep, Little Bear?' Why can't a little bear go to sleep? What does big bear do to help him go to sleep? (brings him lanterns to put by his bed, then takes him outside to look at the moon so that he isn’t scared of the dark) What do you do to help you go to sleep?

Year 1 – What is the difference between going to sleep overnight, like we do, and hibernation?

Year 2 – How do you think Erin felt about Black Rock? How do you know?

Year 3 - Do you think Bad Nana will get the Park Keeper to change his mind? What makes you think this?

Year 4 - If you could write a biography (the story of someone’s life), who would you choose and why?

Year 5 -   ‘A Clock of Stars’ – How did King Drakomor treat Miroslav?

Year 6 -  "Hero on a Bicycle" by Shirley Hughes: How does the author establish a sense of danger in the opening scenes?

SRP 2 -  What makes the townspeople change their minds about the lion?
