Headteacher Message

This week’s highlight was welcoming so many of you into school for the parent-teacher consultations. It was fantastic to see so many of you take the time to attend the meetings. As teachers, these one-on-one meetings are invaluable. They give an opportunity to look at the progress and successes of your child and reflect on how they have settled into their class and new academic year.  We hope your conversation gave you a clear, positive insight into where your child is shining and offered practical, simple ways for you to continue to be their biggest champion in their learning at home.

Communication between home and school is extremely important for your child's success.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak to the teacher at the end of the day for a quick chat, or, for anything longer, email info@ at any point. Your email will be passed onto your child's class teacher.

In assemblies this week we have continued our theme of ambition and looking at how we can be ambitious learners in all aspects of our lives. We looked at the impact of perspective and how one small word can change our perspective and thinking.  Our small word is, ‘yet’

I can’t do that. I can’t do that, yet.

With the younger children, we read the picture book, The Magical Yet, and I challenged them to use that word next time they are faced with a challenge. It is a really great example of how changing your mindset and perspective on something can help you achieve and overcome challenges. With the older children, we looked at the importance of having a growth mindset and not a fixed mindset, in order to challenge ourselves to be the best learners we can be.

Today, many of us are spending the afternoon thinking about and celebrating one of our very much missed parents, Sarah Fisher, who was always so very positive and warm. She certainly was a shining example of someone who faced every challenge with positivity and energy. We are thinking of her and her beautiful family as they say goodbye to her at her funeral service this afternoon.

I’m signing this email off with something that brought me happiness this week and that was a story written and illustrated by Sofia, in year 2. Here is the first publication of, The Funny Bear.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception - Which animals live in The Tree? (young birds, squirrels, owls, rabbits) What are the names of their different homes? (nest, drey, hollow, burrow’) Why do the 'new arrivals' have to change their 'wonderful plan'? (Because they would have to chop the tree down to build their home and that would destroy the animals' homes)

Year 1 – What treasure did the squirrel find? (an acorn) Where did the squirrel bury it? (in the heart of the forest) Why couldn’t she find it when she returned the following spring? (because it had started to grow into an oak tree)

Year 2 - Can you summarise what has happened so far in the story, The Bear and The Piano?

Year 3 - Do you think the girl will complete the task from the sun or do you think it really is impossible?

Year 4 -  In ‘Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters’, why do you think Nyasha was a happier person than Manyara?

Year 5 - ‘Treason’ – What was King Henry VIII’s first impression of William?

Year 6 - What did we find out about child evacuees in World War Two?

SRP 2 - – What do you think squirrel’s reaction will be when spring comes?
