Headteacher Message

Hello all,

Sometimes you write things down because you believe that they are true but do you really know? This week I wrote that there was a lot of love at Darell School and this week has proved that these are not just words. This love has been needed and given by every member of staff who has supported Jessica and Kate in their time back at school it has been incredible.  This is not about the staff team here but like you all this devastating news has hit everybody hard. We need to keep going for all of our children and I have been so impressed with the attitude shown by all the staff. Constantly looking for a way forward through the sadness of it all. Our first priority is looking after Jessica and Kate and as I promised we will do this not just today, tomorrow but for the rest of their time at this school and beyond. Your children are also helping us on this journey. When needed they have uniformly responded with love. I have just heard about a lovely interaction in nurture that involved a child saying I am very sorry to hear that and then offering and providing a hug. Our children really are the best.

I have been touched by the response from the wider community and I have kindly been asked by some of you is there anything that you can do to help the family. I would ask that you hold onto this thought. We will speak to the family after half term and ask what would be most supportive. I hope dad will not mind me saying but when I met him he talked about the now but was also thinking about a month, two months time when they have emerged from this terrible shock. We as a community will find a way to support them in the best way possible.

Our thoughts remain with the girls and their family as we head into the half term break.

Joe Porter
