Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are well.  As the great Glen Frey once sang, “The heat is on.” We have put a number of measures in place to ensure that your children continue to thrive during this mini heatwave.

  1. We have stopped ball games at break and lunchtimes

  2. We have increased the shade in the playground by utilising the three gazebos that we purchased for the Key Stage 1 sports day

  3. We have stopped the use of our step counter wristbands in KS2 to encourage children to sit in the shade during break

I have to say that the best initiative has been the common sense of your children. At the moment I am doing the majority of break duties in KS2 and yesterday they were all so sensible. They sought shade and got into little groups and basically had a good chat for the duration of the break.

I would like to say a big thank you to Laura Gavin and the Darell team for organising KS1 Sports day.  There was a lovely atmosphere at North Sheen Rec and a perfect mix of competition and participation. A big thank you to our Year 6 pupils for supporting their younger counterparts. One small note, I am going to ditch the loudspeaker next year as by the end I wasn’t even listening to myself!!

Finally, I would like to say a very big thank you to our Parents Association. I have just been sent an email outlining their planned events for the next academic year. They look great and it is so helpful to be able to sync calendars. The PSA is really going from strength to strength. I am aware it is all voluntary and would like to thank everyone involved for their time and effort.

Have a lovely weekend with your families.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception - What helps Jabari to have a go and jump off of the diving board? (Coming down and taking a rest, doing his stretches, listening to his dad, taking a deep breath and telling himself 'I am ready')

Year 1 - Can you remember the animals described in the riddle poems A Sticky Riddle and BEwARe? (a snail and a bear) What did you like or dislike about these poems?

Year 2 - Did you enjoy The Night Gardener? Why? Why not?

KS1 SRP - What does the caterpillar turn into? What is that change called?

KS2 SRP - What was Claude's favourite flavour of icecream? And what is yours?

Year 3 - Would you rather meet the Iron Man or the Space Bat-Angel-Dragon? Why?

Year 4 - What is the connection between the House of Wisdom and the ‘Arabian Nights’?

Year 5 - Which is your favourite verse of the Highwayman? Why?

Year 6 - How do you predict the story will end?
