Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well. The sun is out, and the future is bright.  This week we had a safeguarding review of the school.  We asked the safeguarding lead of the local authority to come into school and have a close look at all the work we do to keep our and your children safe.  We are confident regarding our practice but are always looking to improve what we do.  She spent time at the school gates at the beginning of the day, completed a site walk and interviewed staff and pupils and looked in detail at our record keeping.  We have not had the report back yet but her feedback was very positive, and I have to commend her collaborative approach.  Once again, it made me extremely proud of our staff team and, in particular, the care they show to each and every one of your children.  Darell school truly is a very special place and the more visitors we have, the more this word is being spread far and wide.

Next week we are holding sports day on Wednesday.  KS1 Events will be similar to what we have done before, but we are changing the format for KS2.  Essentially, we are making it a bit more competitive.  Please bare with us on this.  We are going to give it a go, review it and then make changes if necessary. The feedback we get from our children will be pivotal in this process. The weather looks set to be fair, and we look forward to seeing you there and also to beating you in the tug of war competition.  I have been feeding the office staff raw meat all week in preparation!!

Have a lovely weekend with your families.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception -Thinking about the 'brave' things that Jack does in the story, Jack and the Beanstalk, have you ever done something where you need to be brave but feel a little scared at the same time?

Year 1 - Would you like to go on a journey like Brick? Where in the world would you like to go? What would you like to see?

Year 2 - Can you summarise what has happened so far in 'The Night Gardener'?

Year 3 - Do you think the Iron Man will stay buried in the pit forever? What do you predict will happen next? Why?

Year 4 - Chulak could speak to his elephant. If you could speak to an animal, what animal would it be? What would you ask?

Year 5 - How would you like The Highwayman to end? Do you think this is the ending Alfred Noyes wrote?

Year 6 - Does this book remind you of any other books you have read or any films you have seen? Are you enjoying it? Why or why not?
