Headteacher Message

Happy Friday to all and Eid Mubarek to all our families celebrating today.

The weather has broken, but our spirits have not.  We are at the stage of the year when we begin to review learning. Teachers are already writing reports. I am always so pleased to read these reports as it is abundantly clear that they really know your children. This may seem obvious, but I don’t mean just knowing them superficially. They have an in-depth understanding of their learning and them as an individual.

It is also the time of year when teachers have to let me know if they are resigning and moving on…………..

Well, they are not and, once again, we can maintain the continuity that helps make this school such a lovely place to be.  Mrs James is returning, and Mrs Barlow is returning to Barnes School. I am very sorry that we do not have a teaching position for Mrs Barlow. She has been a great addition to the team as she has lived our values throughout her time here and showed great professionalism throughout.

In terms of where teachers are teaching, we did our usual trick of placing all the names in the hat and asking Zizzi the rabbit to pick a year group and Blue the dog to pick a class teacher. Amazingly, there is very little change. In fact, the only change is affecting Years 5 and 6.  Please see below.

Nursery: Mrs Craig

Reception Mrs Thomas

Walker: Mrs Claridge, Miss Esquilant and team

Year 1: Miss Hayward

Year 2: Miss Prentice

Year 3: Miss Carter

Newton: Mrs Blunden, Miss Cook and team

Year 4 Mr Shankar

Year 5: Mrs James

Year 6: Mrs Durrani

Your children have been informed so you can talk to them about this over the weekend.

We are currently unable to be definite about where all of our teaching assistants are going to be placed, but will let you know later in the term.

Have a lovely weekend with your families.

Joe Porter

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception - Would you climb the beanstalk, like Jack? What would you like to find at the top and why?

Year 1 - What did the tiny seed grow into? (a sycamore tree) Can you remember any of the animals the tree provided a home for? (ladybirds, beetles, dragonflies, squirrels, birds)

Year 2 - What do you think the author means by ‘No frost can steal polar bear’s warmth’?

KS1 SRP - What animal was Tad? How did Tad change in the story? (from tadpole to frog)

KS2 SRP - Claude packs some surprising things into his suitcase.  Can you remember what they were and what would you pack?

Year 3 - Do you think Senhor made the right decision? How do you think the bigger man is going to react? Why?

Year 4 - Should Lila follow her dreams and become a firework maker or listen to her father and get married?

Year 5 - What is a highwayman? Why was Hounslow Heath a hotspot for highwaymen in the 17th and 18th centuries?

Year 6 - What kind of person is Karl, the clockmaker's apprentice? Would you like to have him as a friend? Why or why not?
