Headteacher Message

Hello all,

A lovely end to the week here.  We have streamlined our litter-picking programme, and it now takes place three times a week. The change is that we are now taking a small group of four children into the community. This has made it manageable and sustainable. I really hope that when walking to the school you will notice that the grass verges and surrounding pavements are cleaner and more pleasant to walk down.

My fantastic team today consisted of four girls from Year 4. As you can see,  in twenty minutes we cleared up a heavy bag of rubbish.

I went out to the Key stage 2 playground at lunchtime, and it was absolutely serene.  The outdoor  chalk had been distributed and nearly all of our children had spent their lunchtime drawing on the ground.

It was like going back in time and a timely reminder that it is sometimes the simplest things in life which give the most pleasure. With that thought in mind,  I would like to wish you and your families a very happy half-term.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Reception - How is Tad different to her brothers and sisters? (she is the smallest in the whole wide pond) How does she have to swim to keep up with her brothers and sisters? (twice as fast) Why does Big Blub never catch her? (because she was strong and clever and knew all the best hiding places and she swam up and up)

Year 1 - Was there anything you liked about the story Stuck? Was there anything you disliked? Was there anything that puzzled you or took you completely by surprise?

Year 2 - What do you predict will happen next in our comprehension book, The Antlered Ship? What makes you think this?

KS1 SRP - Who was kind in the story? How did they show kindness?

KS2 SRP - Are you like Vashti?  Is there something you can do now that you thought you would never be able to do?

Year 3 - What would you say to Senhor to convince him not to cut down the Kapok Tree?

Year 4 - Are you tempted to read books written by Enid Blyton? Why or why not?

Year 5 - At the end of his autobiography, Nelson Mandela writes, "We must join hands and say we are one country, one nation, one people, marching together into the future. A future in which people of all colours will learn to live in peace." What did he mean by that?

Year 6 - An Evolution Story by Isabel Thomas and Daniel Egneus - How did peppered moths change their patterns over time? What is natural selection?
