Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well.  I have been really enjoying getting to know our new school councillors. We have finally settled on a meeting time I can consistently make, and they are already proving to be great school representatives.  This week, I asked them to independently write a little biography for the school website, and I am really proud of what they have produced.  Here is just one example;

Hi. I am Ela, the school councillor for year group five at Darell Primary and Nursery School. My year group is Attenborough Class, and I absolutely love this school.

What I like about this school is that you can trust everyone, and everyone is kind and amazing.

The teachers are helpful and the most amazing people you can possibly think of. Everyone helps you when you need it. For example, if you fall down and hurt yourself, everyone will help you get up and help you go to the office for an ice pack or a plaster!

I personally think that this school needs no improvement except the KS2 playground, where we could have more equipment and maybe a relaxing area that has reading and drawing things in it.

Lastly, I love this school and hope you love it too.’

Well, Ela, I love it, and that is because it is full of wonderful children like yourself!

I often think that if you could bottle up the goodness that every child has inherently within them and share it with the adults, then the world would be a very happy place indeed. We are collating all of the contributions and will upload them on the website next week.

Children are inspiring, and being surrounded by learning has inspired me to learn something new. I am halfway through qualifying to be a football referee. I have an all-day course tomorrow. Spare a thought for my son, who is also taking the course with his dad—the oldest person there by some distance! Age is just a number, and embarrassing him (in a nice way) will get me through the day. Have a lovely weekend.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - What special time do Hindus celebrate in autumn? (Diwali) Why do Hindus call Diwali a Festival of Light? (Because in the story of Rama and Sita at Diwali everyone lit candles in their windows so that they could find their way home).

Peake - Leaf Man was lonesome for a home.  Do you agree or disagree? Explain why.  What would you like about being blown about by the wind? What would you miss?

Weir - Can you retell the story, 'The King of Tiny Things' using time adverbials e.g. First, After that,... ?

Walker -We have been learning about Divali. Can you remember the colours you used to make rangoli patterns?

Newton - Did Snow White drink the cocktail? What happened?

Thunberg - Do you think the girl will give up on the impossible task or keep going? What makes you think this?

Darwin - How many folktales can you think of where there is a 'good' and 'bad' sibling as there is in Mufaro's beautiful daughters?

Attenborough - How do we know that the family is grieving for Matthew in chapter 2 of Treason?

Parks - ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’ by Emma Carroll – Who do you predict is the man that Sukie met during the air raid?
