Headteacher Message

Hello all,

This week I have been reflecting on how well staff in the education sector have stepped up to the challenge that this current situation has thrown at them. From support staff to teachers, office staff to kitchen staff I am incredibly grateful for the dedication, hard work and flexibility that all the staff have shown. I am fortunate enough that my two children are able to attend school and when I dropped them this week I was, as ever, blown away by the positivity, happiness and warmth with which their teachers greeted them.

I am sure that at this point we are all feeling the challenges that this extended period of lockdown has provided. However, I also wanted to take the time to thank you as parents for all your support, hard work and incredible juggling skills you manage. Phone calls that I have made have shown the challenges that you are facing and we are so grateful for all you do for your children.

This week has been Children’s Mental Health Week and it has been great to take the opportunity to reflect on how important looking after our wellbeing is. I am looking forward to today’s live assemblies where we will continue to highlight the importance of this theme. To continue to support children’s wellbeing, our staff have been collating a range of fantastic ideas to encourage your children to have a Screen Free afternoon on Wednesday 10th February. The activities will be shared with you via Google Classroom. Whilst having the structure of remote learning and screen based activities is important, it is also vital that your children are able to spend time away from their screens doing other things. As I write this, the weather outside looks relatively mild (for now) and I look forward to getting out and taking my daily exercise. As ever, please do make sure that you stay in touch with us, we really value all our communication with you.

Please let your child's class teacher know when they have reached 50 dots so that we can ensure they receive their certificate.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more  about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Weir -  Do you think Funni should share her garden with the public or keep it a secret? Why?

Mozart - Trip, trap, trip, trap went the Billy Goats Gruff as they crossed the bridge.  Can you think of some more sounds to describe the goats footsteps?

Newton - How did Lila lift her hands to the sky?

Thunberg - Why do you think the giant had such a sudden change of heart? Would you be friends with him now?

Darwin - :   In the poem, 'The Listeners' we are never told what promise the Traveller was keeping. What do you think it might have been? Try and think of a plausible answer.

Attenborough - Was it a good idea to leave Marie behind? in the castle?

Parks -  Why do you think their were many tears and kisses after 'Peter's first battle'?

Online Safety

Sitting down with your child and exploring their favourite app or game is a great way for you to learn more about what they like to do online.

You can ask them why they like to use an app or play certain games, as well as who they’re talking to and what sorts of things they’re sharing.

You can follow the online safety links for tips on how to keep kids safe on popular apps, sites and games.
