Headteacher Message

Dear all,

This weekend I am going to buy some boating shoes.  An odd start to the newsletter, I know.  However, this warmer weather is making me want to wear shorts and, as a man, footwear becomes pivotal to the overall outfit. I don’t like them, but they are the only option I can see!

Why am I telling you this? Well, I wanted to thank all of you who have responded to our push on appropriate uniform.  If you don’t keep reminding, standards tend to fall, and it has been lovely to see such smartly and appropriately dressed children entering school this week.  I really think that children feel a sense of pride when dressed in full uniform.  We want them to be loud and proud of their school and this helps us to achieve this.

Please can I remind everyone that we can not authorise holidays during term time.  Ultimately, it is your choice as parents, but for repeat offenders, we do issue fixed penalty fines, and we will continue to do this.

I would like to share some news with you. Our long-standing Nursery Assistant, Geri, will be moving on from Darell Nursery at half-term to pursue her career in the private sector. I am sure you will join us as we wish her all the success in this new adventure and thank her for all she has done to support our youngest children.

Finally, I would like to wish all of our lovely Year 6 children the very best for their SATs tests next week.  They are ready and also aware that all we want them to do is their best.  These tests in no way define them and in no way show what unique and lovely individuals they all are.

Have a lovely weekend with your families.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - What part of the pond does Big Blub live in? Deep, dark, murky part of the pond. Where does Tad go in the pond to keep safe? Shallow, sunny parts of the pond and behind the rocks and plants when the sun goes in.

Peake - Can you perform a section of the poem 'The Wicked Witch's Song' to grown-ups at home? Which words could you say loudly or softly? Can you add some actions?

Weir - What could have happened to the star when it disappeared?

Thunberg - Can you retell Theseus and the Minotaur from the Minotaur's perspective?

Darwin - Do you prefer to read fiction, non-fiction or a mixture of both?

Attenborough - What did you like about how the poem ‘Snow Leopard’ is written? Do you have a question for poet Philip Gross?

Parks - Why do you think we could describe Fritz as an optimist and Karl as a pessimist?
