Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I am not going to mention the weather.  There, I didn’t.  I have a sneaky suspicion that our children quite like wet play and I rarely hear any complaints when I say we need to stay inside at break.  To be honest, there is a lot that goes on at lunchtime that takes place inside the school on a weekly basis, including:

  • Colouring club (daily)

  • French club

  • Rockbandz

  • Choir

  • Karate

  • Pokemon

  • Debate Mate

I have always thought that we offer a good number and variety of clubs for a small school.  While it is important to run around and expend energy at lunchtime, some of our children benefit from taking part in other activities and we like to cater for everyone.

The dog formerly known as Blue attended school on Thursday and had a ball.  For a number of reasons, he has not been able to come to school in the last two months, and it was lovely to see how appreciated his visit was.  His day was extremely busy and included helping a reluctant child into school, supervising Key stage 2 class registrations, a lot of sniffing, playing football at first break and chasing balls with children throughout the day.  I took him home at 6pm. He sloped upstairs, and I believe has been sleeping ever since!

We will be sending out the booking information shortly for our parent-teacher consultations.  I am always extremely impressed with the percentage of parents that attend these meetings. It is a great way to ensure we work in partnership to ensure your child has the best experiences in school.  We regularly get over 95% attendance, so let us live our values and be aspirational and hit that 100% this term.

Have a lovely weekend with your families.

Joe

Office Updates

Clubs

This is a polite reminder to collect your child promptly from their extracurricular after-school club. Many of our club providers have other appointments to attend and need to be able to leave on time. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Lates

If you are running late in the morning, you must enter via the main office on Niton Road, accompany your child and sign them in via the Inventry system at the front desk. Your child will be asked for their meal option and given a late ticket before proceeding through the main door.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - Can you remember the names of the different animals that the Adelie penguin meets in the Antarctic? (humpback whale, minke whale, leopard seal, Weddell seal, elephant seal, squid, krill, jellyfish, emperor penguin, fish) Why can the penguin survive in the Antarctic? (thick layer of fat, good swimmer, can slide on the ice, lives in a colony with other penguins)

Peake - What do you think the character of the witch is like? How do you think Rapunzel feels being all alone in the tall, dark tower?

Weir - What did King Charles II do to help with the fire?

Thunberg - Who do you think the creakers are? What do you predict they will do next?

Darwin - Describe your own monster for Beowulf to fight.

Attenborough - Why did people think Lord Carnarvon died of the Curse of the Mummy?

Parks - Who do you predict the character 'Kensuke' is?

Truly epic! Yesterday, was the first concert of the newly formed Darell School rock band. Here is a clip of our lead guitarist limbering up. We would like to thank Rock Bandz for unleashing the talent that is within. Rock on! https://t.co/RYG3Soaa1j
