Headteacher Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all well.  I have just returned from the Key Stage 1 Nativity dress rehearsal.  All of Key Stage Two and the staff team made up the audience.  It was lovely.  So nice to see our youngest children performing with so much confidence.  You are all in for a treat next week.

Today, many of your children will be attending our Christmas disco.  I am expecting to see some spectacular dance moves and that is just from the staff team!! While there are many festivities taking place at school, we continue to focus on learning, and yesterday I was delighted to see some of the writing that is taking place in Year 1. I had at least 12 children in my office and had a chance to look at their books. I thought it unfair that only I was able to see this, so here you are.

They truly are living our Aspiration value by challenging themselves to be the best writers that they can be.

Hopefully, I will see many of you in the upcoming festivities, but in the meantime, have a lovely weekend with your families. I would like to express a very big thank you to all the parents' association who have given up their time to prepare the D.I.S.C.O. The hall is looking amazing.

Before I go, I have a New Years plea.  We are still in the process of  appointing a receptionist to replace Lara.  We have interviewed but have not yet found the right candidate.  In the interim period before we appoint, we could do with some admin support in the office.  If you are able to volunteer for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, that would be extremely helpful.  Please contact the office if that is of interest to you.  We would be asking you to answer the phone and simply pass messages on. It could offer valuable work experience, and we would be able to provide a reference for anybody supporting us with this. DBS approval would be needed. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - Why does Max's mother call him 'wild thing!'?

Why WOULD you like to go to where the wild things are?

Why WOULDN'T you like to go to where the wild things are?

Peake - Do you agree that Major Glad and Major Dizzy are heroes? Explain why.

Weir - Can you make up your own Claude and Sir Bobblysock adventure to tell your grown up?

Thunberg - Do you think Ernest will survive the tempestuous storm? How do you think Nen will feel about what his father did?

Darwin - Why did Doctor Dolittle decide to become an animal doctor? What is an animal doctor called?

Attenborough - What makes Treason a work of historical fiction?

Parks - Why do you think they are planning to turn off the light in the lighthouse at Budmouth Point?
