Headteacher Message

Family and friends are so important.  Last weekend my brother came to visit me.  This is significant because he currently lives in Kenya with his young family. He came bearing gifts including some amazing Kenyan coffee, which has really turbo boosted us through this week.  It was so lovely to see him and we had a great weekend together. Having that contact with him really lifted my spirits and made me reflect on the importance of teaching how to maintain healthy relationships at primary and secondary school.  I spend a lot of time in the playground (during school break times, not just ordinarily!) and it really is a joy to see how well our children get on.  I always judge a break time with my smileometer and it is currently peaking, which is partly due to the good weather we are having.  What is superb about this school is the diversity that is at its core. Your children play with other children from a variety of backgrounds different to themselves; this is undoubtedly a life skill that will stay with them forever.  I really feel that the diversity that I experienced being raised in Shepherd’s Bush has enabled me to get along with everyone and crucially have an interest in people.  This value we have been focussing on at school this term really promotes this;.

Our children live this on a daily basis. This is most evident when looking at how our children support the children on site with additional needs.  It really is heartwarming to see the patience, empathy and care they show towards these children.  We are one.  Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy quality time with your family and friends.  I normally finish here but writing this has made me think about how I have lost contact with someone who was effectively my best friend for most of my life.  I am going to be proactive and ring him after school today.  We have shared so much together. It is time for a new chapter. I hope this may inspire you to do the same.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - From learning about firefighters this week and our visit to the fire station, how many pieces of equipment can you remember that they keep on the fire truck? What type of emergencies do the firefighters go to?

Peake - What was your favourite page in Atlas of Imaginary Places? Why?

Weir - If you were Atir, would you have stayed in Paris with Zeraffa or returned to Africa to see your family?  Explain why.

Thunberg - What could you do in your life that would help the animals in the Amazon Rainforest?

Darwin - Think of the story in Edward Tulane so far. Can hard times make you a better person? Why?

Attenborough - What do you think happened to Darkus’ dad in the novel Beetle Boy by M.G.Leonard?

Parks - In 'Clockwork', what makes Dr Kalmenius a spooky/creepy/unnerving character?
