Headteacher Message

Hello all,

It was really lovely to see so many of you in school this week.  I talk about being a happy school and the recent parent and carers meetings really showcased this.  I spoke to many happy parents and staff, and it was incredibly valuable that you were able to hear how well your children are doing and how you can support them at home.  We celebrate every child from whatever their starting point and have high expectations of what they can achieve. This, combined with our focus on happy children and removing any barriers to learning, means that our children are happy and are learning, and I hope this was the impression that you left with after your meeting.  As ever, do contact me if you have any concerns at all.

We are looking forward to seeing parents next week for the meetings planned:

  • Monday 2.45pm - Year 1 Phonics Screener Parent Information Meeting

  • Tuesday 2.45pm - Year 6 SATs Parent Information Meeting

  • Friday 2.45pm - Year 2 SATs Parent Information Meeting

These sessions will give you more information about each of the statutory assessments and how you can support your child at home. We look forward to welcoming as many parents as possible to these sessions.

I am very lucky to be able to host three assemblies a week. I really value this time as I am able to speak to all of our children. This is a real privilege and I try to make sure that my assemblies are meaningful and useful to them.  This week we spoke about pupil voice and how we can amplify this across the school.  I showed them some examples of when their voice had been heard and action taken.

I really like it when I am approached in the corridor or visited in my office by children who have ideas about how to improve the school, and they always get the time they deserve.  I find if you listen you often learn.  With that thought I am going to leave you to your weekends.  I sincerely hope that it brightens up, and you can get out and about with your lovely children.

Office Updates

Lost Property  Free Lost Property Stock Photo - FreeImages.com

We have a number of unclaimed lost property items in the office. Please come and have a look through the items in the lost property trolley.

PE Kit:

Please can we remind all parents and carers to send their children into school wearing their PE  kit on their PE day. We would also advise their darell jumper or fleece as the weather is still cold. Children are only permitted to wear trainers on PE days.

PE Kit:

  • Navy Darell PE T shirt
  • Black Shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms (with no logo)

No Nuts

Can we remind all parents and carers that we are a Nut Free School. Please be especially careful when using chocolate spread and chocolate filled crepes, as often it is chocolate and hazelnut. We have several children that suffer from nut allergies and sitting next to someone who has eaten nuts could be enough to cause a reaction. We thank you in advance for your co-operation.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - - From our reading of One Day on Our Blue Planet: Where does the Adelie penguin live? What other animals live there? Why does she have a lucky escape? Why does she spend so long in the water?

Peake - Have a go at saying out loud, "Leave the tower, and I will put a terrible curse on you!" How can you show the witch's feelings through your expression? If you were the witch, what curse would you put on Rapunzel if she escaped from the tower?

Weir - Which migration story did you find the most interesting? Why?

Thunberg - How do you think Perseus gets home with the head of Medusa?

Darwin - What did you like best about the poem ‘The Listeners’? Was there anything you didn’t like?

Attenborough - Do you think Lil will be able to return the Anubis jar to Egypt?

Parks - Why do the 'wood people' dislike the White Witch so much?
