Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well.  I have just come back from the school gates, and it was lovely to see so many of you again.  We have been super busy here, and I have not had the chance to be out and about as much as I would have liked.  I receive quite a lot of email correspondence and this week it was lovely to have a couple of emails praising the school. We are not here for praise, we are here for the children, but these small gestures really helped to lift spirits across the school. As soon as I receive emails like this I share them with the whole school team and I know that they love receiving these messages.  We have also had some really lovely feedback from a supply teacher who has been teaching across the school this week.  She has worked in nearly every class and has left with a fantastic impression of the school.  She has fed this back to her agencies and friends, which again helps to spread the positive message about Darell school.  She came to see me and said that she could not believe how happy the school was.  Once again this is testament to the staff and your lovely children.

Today was world book day at Darell, and we have had a lovely day exploring our favourite books.  In year 4 they described their favourite books and there are two examples below.

I think these two reviews really highlight the power of books.  The power to be able to transport yourself anywhere that you want. Truly magical.

Next week we have our parent consultations. Note to self: ‘consultation, sounds a bit formal. I think we should change this to parent conversation or something possibly a bit more inviting! Anyway, I have been really pleased to see how many have signed up.  If you haven’t, Lara from the office is on a mission, so please do!  I look forward to seeing you all next week.  Have a lovely weekend.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - Why are polar bears able to live in the Arctic? (thick fur, dig dens in the snow, dig holes to catch seals, super swimmers)

Peake - In our story, Rapunzel, what words of phrases would you use to describe the witch's feelings and personality?

Weir - Was Black Rock what you were expecting? Has your opinion of Black Rock changed? Why?

Thunberg - How will the boy and the bear get home?

Darwin - What do you admire about Paul Erdosh?

Attenborough - How did Lord Carnarvon die?

Parks - Did you feel sorry for Mr Tumnus when he was upset at his house? Why/why not?

Now that is a picture! Year 2 had a fantastic time visiting @StPaulsLondon this week. They explored the cathedral, learnt more about the Great Fire and climbed 376 steps to take in the panoramic view of London. The workshop leader told them they were a credit to their school. https://t.co/wrhvfJwKkc
