Headteacher Message

Friday has now become my favourite day of the week.  You are thinking this is an obvious choice Mr Porter.  The weekend is on the way and everybody is in a good mood.  Well both those reasons do apply, but the main reason is that it is the day I get to be a teacher again.  I teach Year 6 on a Friday morning, and it is a complete and utter joy.  They are so eager to learn, knowledgeable and well-behaved.  If this is the blueprint for all children coming through the school then we are in a very good place.  I do love being Headteacher but having the opportunity to move away from my desk and in front of our lovely children is a privilege that I will always fight for.

Our curriculum offer continues to improve and this is due to the hard work of our curriculum and subject leads.  It is really important that you know what is happening in your child’s classroom and what they are learning.  We have produced a curriculum newsletter for the autumn term for every year group.  Please follow this link to the newsletter where you can find the newsletter for your child's year group.

 https://www.darell.richmond.sch.uk/page/?title=Curriculum+Newsletters&pid=340

Next week, we will be giving you details of our planned teacher meetings where you will have a chance to meet your class teacher on an informal basis and see your child's classroom.  We really want to continue to work in partnership with you and building these relationships really helps with this.

Avid readers of this newsletter will know that I do not like to use this medium as a means to establish protocols and lecture you all the dos and don'ts of school life.  However, I would like to establish one new protocol for this year and I will explain why.  We think it is very important to celebrate every child's birthday and will continue to do so in school.  We know that parents like giving sweets and treats to other children in the class and this is very kind.  We would like to change this and ask that instead of buying sugary treats you donate a book to the school to mark your child’s birthday.  It will then have a sticker inside marking the donation and birthday of the child.  Of course this is not a rule and there is not an expectation that it is done, but we do not want sweets in school for birthdays any more.  For ideas of books to buy, please look at our Darell recommended reads on the website and choose one from your year group. Link below. Thank you.

All that remains is for me to wish you a peaceful weekend.  Enjoy time with your lovely families and stay safe.

Wellbeing

Relaxation Activity Turtle

This exercise releases muscle tension. Pretend you are a turtle going for a slow, relaxed turtle walk.
Oh no. it’s started to rain!
Curl up tight under your shell for about 10 seconds.
The sun’s out again, so come out of your shell and return to your relaxing walk.
Repeat a few times, making sure to finish with a walk so that your body is relaxed.
