PE

“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” ― John F. Kennedy

Intent

At Darell, we strive to offer our students a high-quality and wide-ranging Physical Education (P.E) curriculum and view physical health as holistically fundamental to our children’s wellbeing. Overall our goal is to inspire our children into living healthy and sporting lives.

Implementation

As a school, we provide all children under our care with engaging, exciting and active PE lessons every week. Furthermore, we also offer an impressive array of clubs and activities during and after the school day, thanks to our links with local providers, professional coaches and a willing staff base. Our extensive curriculum mapping in PE offers clear progression in a range of sports throughout pupils’ time with us. In doing so, we provide our children with the opportunity, space and equipment to find their chosen sport and learn the skills to excel in it.

Through participation in sports and physical education, our children build self-esteem, the ability to work as part of a team, and positive attitudes that will benefit them in life just as much as it will in the classroom or on the sporting field. Subsequently, children develop a passion and love for sports both inside and outside of school. In turn, this builds the foundation for children to lead healthy lives and manage a balanced diet, which is explored in cross-curricular links through PSHE and Science lessons.

Our PE curriculum empowers all our pupils and helps them develop essential knowledge, understanding and skills to succeed in a broad range of physical activities. Darell is also an ever-present force in the local community with a range of sporting teams, that compete against other schools and in borough-wide competitions.

Impact

Our PE curriculum echoes our school values: in that it champions equality and is inclusive for all. It is aspirational as we aspire for sporting excellence, participation gives pupils the toolkit to take responsibility for their own physical health. It fosters enjoyment and a sense of pride in being active and leading a healthy lifestyle.
